Building Day 29

Roof Raising

Bucket Brigade

Back 'n forth
Heavy with graveled cement
Up ten feet on to the roof.
Muscled arms and legs
Steeled backbone from
Manual labor.  I can't begin
To imagine how hard.

Four inches thick...

With God's grace
This house will last
Forevermore.

Christmas Lighting

I love St. Mary Magdalene Parish

Christmas lighting was the first Sunday of Advent, Nov. 30, 2014, after the 6:15 Mass.  Banda 22 performed a couple of pieces at the beginning and again at the end during the fireworks display.  They played the theme from "Star Wars" at the end.

There were various speeches made in between the lighting of different areas.  Speakers included Fr. Jovi, Mayor Masikip, Sr., hermanos and hermanas of Santo Rosario (men and women who are head of various organizations at church).  It was a beautiful evening, full of excitement for Christmas.

Building Day 21

Alphonsa Mahigne's Retirement Tribute, aka Despedida Party

After 35 years teaching, 24 of which were at Pililla Elementary School Central, Ate Nene left the classroom Nov. 15, 2013.  She had planned to retire at the end of the school year (March 2014). The stroke which according to the doctor was stress induced left her with no choice but to retire early.

During the retirement celebration, each retiree gave a short speech.  Ate Nene gave thanks to God and to her colleagues for their prayers because without them she would not be "as normal" as she is now.  I also continue to give God thanks for allowing me to share in her life and to be present at this celebration.
